Admissions
We invite highly qualified students with a Bachelor or Master of Science degree in biology, chemistry, geology, physics, mathematics, engineering, or an ocean-related field, to apply for oceanography graduate study at Texas A&M University.
Students should apply for admission to the M.S. or Ph.D. program in oceanography and indicate specific interest in one of the four major divisions: biological, chemical, geological, or physical oceanography.
Students should have completed*:
- Math through Integral Calculus
- 1 year of Chemistry
- 1 year of Physics
- A survey course in Biology and/or Geology is recommended
Additional Requirements Include:
- The Texas A&M applications can be found at applytexas.org
- Official transcripts from all college level institutions attended, whether or not a degree was awarded.
- Three letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your ability to conduct research and/or be successful in a graduate program are required. Recommendation Forms are available in PDF version. (see mailing address below for submitting these directly to the department)
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores; please use Institutional Code - R6003, Department Code - 0508.
- International students must also submit the following material:
- The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores if applicable.
- Statement of the award of the degree or diploma.
Deadlines for receipt of all materials:
- 1 January for consideration for fellowships, scholarships and assistanceships
- U.S. Students
- The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores if applicable.
- Statement of the award of the degree or diploma.
- 1 July is the last day for receipt of applications for the Fall
- 1 December is the last day for receipt of applications for the Spring
- International Students.
- 1 March is the deadline for the Fall
- 1 August is the deadline for the Spring
