[36K] An underwater photo shows a sperm whale diving from the surface of the Gulf of Mexico. The whales feed several hundred meters deep, in the gulf's "ocean oases." When Texas A&M scientists surveyed the gulf during the GulfCet I study, underwater microphones detected 273 sperm whales, and observers spotted more than three hundred. |
