We strive to prepare students to become productive contributors to the body of knowledge about the ocean and apply that knowledge to solve problems facing their communities. The Department includes four sections (Biology, Chemical, Geological & Geophysical, and Physical), and also encourages interdisciplinary work between the sections.

Various programs in Oceanography also parallel with the other Departments in the College of Geosciences (Atmospheric Science, Geography, and Geology/Geophysics). The opportunity of degrees offered extend from certificate programs, to the Master’s of Science (Thesis and Non-Thesis options) and Ph.D. degrees.
