The Department of Oceanography shares the fifteen-story David G. Eller building with Atmospheric Sciences and Geography, giving our students easy access to colleagues and other students working on climate-related problems, air-sea interaction, and geographic-information systems.

Meteorological and oceanographic satellites are making important new observations of the ocean. Altimetric satellite observations of oceanic currents, especially the new observations being made by Topex/Poseidon, as well as infrared images of the Gulf of Mexico are routinely archived at Texas A&M.

A newly installed mass spectrometer offers students and faculty the opportunity to work with a state-of-the-art analytical instrument available in only a few places in the U.S.

All our students are expected to have or develop fluency with modern computer equipment, and the department maintains a networked computing center that emphasizes workstations and Macintoshes used for teaching, data analysis, numerical modeling and graphics.

The Integrated Ocean Drilling Program has administrative, laboratory and core-storage facilities on the College Station campus.

The Geochemical and Environmental Research Group offers nearby facilities specializing in analytical geochemistry of water and sediment samples collected from continental shelves worldwide.
