| Professor of Oceanography Named Regents Professor |

Dr. Gilbert Rowe, Head of the Department of Marine Biology at Texas A&M at Galveston and Professor of Oceanography in the College of Geosciences, was honored with the title “Regents Professor” Thursday during an open session of the Texas A&M Board of Regents. The prestigious title, given to several A&M system professors and administrators annually, recognizes distinguished records in teaching, research and service. Honorees attended a recognition dinner Thursday night and received a medallion, a certificate and a $9,000 stipend. Candidates for the title were nominated by the head of each university or agency and reviewed by the Chancellor, who submits recommendations to the Board of Regents. Dr. Rowe, an Aggie, received both his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Zoology and Oceanography from Texas A&M and his Ph.D. from Duke University. In his distinguished career Dr. Rowe has served as Head of the Ocean Sciences Division at Brookhaven National Laboratory, and Head of the Department of Oceanography at Texas A&M. Dr. Rowe assumed his current role, Head of the Department of Marine Biology at Texas A&M Galveston, in 2003. |
