Although Texas A&M is 150 miles from the coast, A&M Oceanography students don’t miss out on sea breezes or the beach. At one of the oldest and strongest oceanography programs in the country, our students log more days at sea than many of their counterparts attending coastal universities.
From January 2006 through July 2009, 43 students participated in a total of 85 research cruises, logging approximately 1,500 days at sea (over 4 years)!

Students have cruised from ports across the U.S. including the East Coast (Boston/Amesburg MA), West Coast (San Francisco/San Diego/Oceanside/Monterey Bay/Oxnard/Santa Cruz), Gulf Coast (Gulfport MS/Chauvin LA/Cocodrie LA/Houma LA/Galveston TX/Freeport TX), Alaska, Hawaii, and the Caribbean (Bridgetown, Barbados/San Juan, Puerto Rico).
Many have been to more exotic locales such as Ushuaia on Tierra del Fuego and Puerto Descado in Argentina; Guayaquil, Ecuador, and the Galapagos Islands; or Easter Island in the South Pacific. Several have been to Antarctica; six spent a summer cruising the Indian Ocean out of Bangkok, and one student participated in a river delta cruise in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Check out Texas A&M Oceanography. It’s time to dive in!
