Research Overview

I am an organic biogeochemist with particular interests in how organic compound (natural and anthropogenic) cycling affect biological and ecological processes and vice versa, and how these interactions influence ecosystem functions and health. These processes are important drivers for carbon and contaminant cycles at regional and global scales. My research uses a combination of targeted and untargeted analytical methods to characterize complex organic mixtures for a better understanding in key processes that affect biogeochemical cycling of organic carbon and environmental contaminants. With the combined targeted and untargeted analyses as well as the emerging multi-omics approaches, I am also investigating into mechanisms that drive the production and cycling of volatile and non-volatile halogenated organic carbon in different ecosystems.
