The Department of Oceanography at Texas A&M University explores the world to investigate the defining questions of the oceans’ future, present, and past. The interdisciplinary work being done by the researchers in the department is more relevant and crucial than ever before. The faculty in the Department of Oceanography are making global strides in their research areas, participating in active research programs around the world.

The Department of Oceanography has access to state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities. Four affiliated centers enhance the research opportunities and access to equipment and seagoing expeditions: the Geochemical and Environmental Research Group (GERG), the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP), Texas Sea Grant, and the Radiogenic Isotope Geosciences Facilty (RIGF).

Dr. Jason B. Sylvan is serving as chief scientist for the NSF-funded research cruise studying East Pacific Rise hydrothermal vent ecosystems, with three Texas A&M Aggies also aboard.
